WHERE IS IT?
The lodge is situated in the Welgevonden Game Reserve in the Waterberg District of Limpopo. It’s a little under three hours from Joburg by car to the entrance of the game reserve, where you will be met by a ranger and driven through the reserve to the lodge, which takes about 40 minutes. There is also a short airstrip for small planes and helicopters, making it accessible for those from other parts of the country.
The villa is three-room luxurious house, complete with its own kitchen, living area, undercover patio and heated swimming pool. It is staffed with a dedicated butler, chef and housekeeper. The villa sleeps six in its large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms that are stocked with Rain toiletries. There are facilities to accommodate a further 14 people at the lodge, making it possible for up to 20 people to attend meetings in the villa.
RESTAURANTS & BARS
Although you can choose to dine in the main lodge with the other guests, the dining areas – both in and outdoors – are perfect for small and medium groups. Lunch and dinner are three-course affairs with menus printed up daily. Breakfast is a small buffet with fruit, cheese, yoghurt, pastries and cereals followed by a plated course. All dishes are light and nutritious and everything is made on the property, including breads and the shortbread biscuits offered on the morning game drives. The kitchen garden supplies delicious veggies and herbs that are turned into salads and soups. Lunch was a sharing platter of salads and protein with a fresh sorbet for dessert. I enjoyed a sea bass and mussel chowder for dinner, which was followed by a chocolatey dessert.
BUSINESS & MEETING FACILITIES
The villa’s living areas are perfect for meetings and conferences. The chairs ringing the dining room table are comfy and wi-fi is available throughout the lodge. The staff is open to discussing your needs and will accommodate you wherever possible.
Welgevonden covers over 35,000 hectares of bush and carries the Big Five, so game drives are the main leisure activity. The lodge is connected to a hide that is quick and easy to access so you can watch the animals at the
watering hole up close. The villa offers a small gym and there is a sauna at the main lodge. And for a little pampering before you depart, visit the spa suite for a massage.
A beautiful setting with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Easily accessible from Joburg and Pretoria. If you’re looking for an upmarket venue, this is the place.
